The Invisible Enemy That Changed My Life

In the sun-soaked days of July 2015, I found myself on a distinctly different journey. While helping my dear friend relocate to Philadelphia, amidst the laughter and camaraderie, I was struck by an unusual sensation — a hardness at my right hip. There was no pain, no forewarning, just a persistent inkling that something was awry. Little did I know this was the beginning of a transformative odyssey.

In the capable hands of Dr. Sabrina Harrison, my lifeline throughout this bewildering voyage, the inexplicable hardness at my hip would very quickly be unveiled as a formidable adversary — a 4-pound tumor where my right ovary once was. The revelation was nothing short of astounding, and it initiated a cascade of medical inquiries and diagnostic tests that sought to unravel the enigmatic riddle that had intruded into my life.

Perhaps the most baffling aspect of this journey was the conspicuous absence of pain. Instead of the expected discomfort, my body communicated through incessant burping, a persistent reminder that there was no room for sustenance in the presence of the encroaching tumor, which had methodically compressed my entire digestive tract. This invisible, silent adversary, akin to a stealthy intruder, had taken residence within me, entirely unbeknownst to me.

And so, the journey commenced — a voyage fraught with formidable challenges, punctuated by moments of despair, but, most importantly, underpinned by an indomitable strength that I had yet to discover within myself. This narrative is a testament to the profound transformation from a woman who initially bore the weight of a mysterious tumor to the empowered and resilient figure of an Ovarian Cancer Survivor.
